Centennial Family Update - Year End Information

<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Centennial Family Update: June 29 Year-End Information</h2> <img src="/images/ceff2671-f366-4434-8f79-53a5690f4a7e?fingerprint=ppb20260703175903" alt="17e2c046 73ec 4a6b 9d24 6ec70800e14b" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"> Students and staff enjoyed a very positive and spirit-filled end of the year. The last two weeks were busy with trips, outside fun, and the celebration of a year of hard work, growing, and learning together. Our final assembly included welcomes, good-byes, and recognition of student leadership, athletic accomplishments, and staff contributions. A little fun was also had with a staff and student "mic drop" that included music, dancing, and inflatable costumes! Thank you to families for your support this year. We look forward to seeing everyone in September. Centennial staff wishes you days ahead that include friendships, family connections, life learning, and restful moments. Each year we strive to build the best learning environments for all learners.The school team considers a wide range of factors, including the overall number of students in each grade, student learning styles and personalities, academic strengths and needs, peer relationships, learning skills and work habits, and social/ emotional strengths and needs. All classrooms, whether single-grade or combined grade, include students performing at a wide range of achievement levels. We meet the needs within that wide range through differentiated instruction, a focus on developing critical thinking skills, and by implementing modifications and accommodations for various learning needs. In every case, Centennial staff dedicate a tremendous amount of thought, time, and energy to creating responsive classroom learning environments that support the success of all students.Families will receive a letter by email on September 1st indicating the class placement for their student(s). The following information has been shared with us, outlining the potential impacts that accessing the area will have.<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">The contractor will be starting construction on Monday, June 15:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">The work will begin at the Sir John A Macdonald and Norman Rogers Drive intersection. Entrance and exit from Norman Rogers Drive will be restricted during construction hours.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">The road will be reopened overnight and during the weekend.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">The initial closure will extend to the east side of Cliff Cres.</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">During school pick-up/drop off, the contractor will have spotters at the intersection to allow tri-board busses through the Van Order Drive intersection.</li></ul></li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Work is expected to proceed westward in sections while moving the closures along.<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">The project webpage has been updated with an approximate month-month schedule.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">If work progresses faster than expected, then the contractor will skip the sections in front of the schools and then return in July/August.</li></ul></li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">The contractor is aware of the playground work that is planned at Centennial School in July, as well as the EarlyOn program and Gould Lake pick-up/drop-off during the summer. On average, more than 14,000 meals and snacks were served each week, over 530,000 throughout the year, with weekly food orders reaching approximately $17,500.We are grateful to the dedicated staff who make these programs possible, and to The Food Sharing Project for continuing to support student well-being across LDSB. We were fortunate to have Ms. Lane invite a special guest speaker and athlete to visit students on our World Cup Soccer Spirit Day last week. This St. Lawrence College soccer player (originally from Nigeria) offered to speak with some of our students about his journey and then spend time playing soccer with them. He shared about having a strong work ethic, commitment to schooling, and the importance of showing respect, leadership and teamwork on the field and in life. He joined students outside at both recesses to play with both primary and junior students. The following information has been shared with us, outlining the potential impacts that accessing the area will have.<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">The contractor will be starting construction on Monday, June 15:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">The work will begin at the Sir John A Macdonald and Norman Rogers Drive intersection. Entrance and exit from Norman Rogers Drive will be restricted during construction hours.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">The road will be reopened overnight and during the weekend.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">The initial closure will extend to the east side of Cliff Cres.</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">During school pick-up/drop off, the contractor will have spotters at the intersection to allow tri-board busses through the Van Order Drive intersection.</li></ul></li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Work is expected to proceed westward in sections while moving the closures along.<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">The project webpage has been updated with an approximate month-month schedule.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">If work progresses faster than expected, then the contractor will skip the sections in front of the schools and then return in July/August.</li></ul></li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">The contractor is aware of the playground work that is planned at Centennial School in July, as well as the EarlyOn program and Gould Lake pick-up/drop-off during the summer. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. The following information has been shared with us, outlining the potential impacts that accessing the area will have.<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">The contractor will be starting construction on Monday, June 15:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">The work will begin at the Sir John A Macdonald and Norman Rogers Drive intersection. Entrance and exit from Norman Rogers Drive will be restricted during construction hours.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">The road will be reopened overnight and during the weekend.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction.</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">The initial closure will extend to the east side of Cliff Cres.</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">During school pick-up/drop off, the contractor will have spotters at the intersection to allow tri-board busses through the Van Order Drive intersection.</li></ul></li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Work is expected to proceed westward in sections while moving the closures along.<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">The project webpage has been updated with an approximate month-month schedule.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">If work progresses faster than expected, then the contractor will skip the sections in front of the schools and then return in July/August.</li></ul></li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">The contractor is aware of the playground work that is planned at Centennial School in July, as well as the EarlyOn program and Gould Lake pick-up/drop-off during the summer. Along with a few other LDSB schools, Centennial has been granted a new WOW playstructure. Prevention & Advice: The health unit urges anyone experiencing symptoms to stay home. Pride Month Recognition in Limestone

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Education Centre, along with schools across the district, is recognizing Pride Month in the KFL&A region by flying the Progress Pride Flag for the remainder of the school year.The Government of Canada notes that the manner in which the Canadian flag is displayed is not governed by legislation. The guidelines provided are not mandatory for individuals or organizations but are intended to offer general direction.After consultation and clarification from Heritage Canada and communication with trustees, LDSB schools with only one flagpole will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag for the balance of this school year.  Limestone’s goal will be to increase the number of schools with more than one flagpole and/or the addition of yardarms to existing flagpoles to display more than the Canadian flag. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. As a publicly funded school board, we have both a legal and moral responsibility to create learning environments where everyone can see themselves reflected and feel a sense of belonging.

Prevention & Advice: The health unit urges anyone experiencing symptoms to stay home.
