A Warm Welcome to Vice-Principal - Ms. Bocking!
We are thrilled to announce that Centennial will welcome Ms. Jen Bocking as our vice-principal for the 2026-27 school year. Ms. Bocking will be joining us as a half-time administrator, spending the complement of her position in a vice-principal role at Odessa Public School. We are grateful for the support this will offer to staff, students and our school community. Ms. Bocking is currently finishing off the year as Vice-Principal/SST at Enterprise and Tamworth Public Schools. She has a strong skill set and background in special education and will be a welcome addition to the team at Centennial!!
Soccer Fever @ Centennial!
Soccer is one of the favourite recess-time activities at Centennial, and we often hear students sharing updates in the hallways and classrooms about the World Cup. We were fortunate to have Ms. Lane invite a special guest speaker and athlete to visit students on our World Cup Soccer Spirit Day last week. This St. Lawrence College soccer player (originally from Nigeria) offered to speak with some of our students about his journey and then spend time playing soccer with them. He shared about having a strong work ethic, commitment to schooling, and the importance of showing respect, leadership and teamwork on the field and in life.
He joined students outside at both recesses to play with both primary and junior students. This visit was a huge hit and was all the buzz with students.
Thank you to THINK FIRST and the KFL&A Public Health for providing almost 50 new bike helmets for our students!

Norman Rogers Road Project Update
As previously shared with families, there is upcoming roadwork occurring on Norman Rogers Drive. The following information has been shared with us, outlining the potential impacts that accessing the area will have.
- The contractor will be starting construction on Monday, June 15:
- The work will begin at the Sir John A Macdonald and Norman Rogers Drive intersection. Entrance and exit from Norman Rogers Drive will be restricted during construction hours.
- The road will be reopened overnight and during the weekend.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction.
- The initial closure will extend to the east side of Cliff Cres.
- During school pick-up/drop off, the contractor will have spotters at the intersection to allow tri-board busses through the Van Order Drive intersection.
- Work is expected to proceed westward in sections while moving the closures along.
- The project webpage has been updated with an approximate month-month schedule.
- If work progresses faster than expected, then the contractor will skip the sections in front of the schools and then return in July/August.
- The contractor is aware of the playground work that is planned at Centennial School in July, as well as the EarlyOn program and Gould Lake pick-up/drop-off during the summer. We will work with them to see what accommodations can be made during construction.
- The City of Kingston has launched a Get Involved Page to provide information on the upcoming construction on Norman Rogers Drive. The page can be reached at the following link:https://getinvolved.cityofkingston.ca/norman-rogers-drive-improvements.
Centennial Playground Project: Phase 2
We are excited to announce that the Centennial Playground Project will continue this summer. Along with a few other LDSB schools, Centennial has been granted a new WOW playstructure. The project will include the following:
- Installation of the WOW Playstructure just northwest of the current baseball backstop.
- Existing climber by the portables will be moved to the east field area, where the "blue cheese" structure and other climbers are located.
- Maintenance to the forest area, including tree pruning and additional fill added between large boulders to mitigate trip and fall hazards.
- Paved accessibility pathway to be added from the east corner of the school to the climber area.
- Soccer Posts updated and installed in East Field and Middle Field
Health Unit Update: Encourages proper Hand-Washing
The Kingston health unit is actively tracking a recent outbreak of cryptosporidiosis—a parasitic stomach illness—in the Kingston area.
Symptoms: Symptoms typically start 2 to 10 days after exposure and include watery diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, cramps, and fever.
Prevention & Advice: The health unit urges anyone experiencing symptoms to stay home. Frequent handwashing with soap and water is essential, as alcohol-based hand sanitizers are ineffective against this specific parasite. If you have had diarrhea, health officials advise staying out of swimming pools, hot tubs, and splash pads for at least two weeks after your symptoms have stopped

Host an International Student – Be a Part of Kingston’s Global Community
Limestone is proud of our long tradition of hosting students from other countries. The demand for Kingston, and Canada, as a learning destination is rapidly growing. Students from over 15 different countries are here now staying with great homestay families in Limestone. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to international students.
We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one-year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy, and Denmark.
Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years of age. Our International Education team works hard to make a great match for your family, that can last a lifetime.

Family Literacy First aims to bring parents and children together to practice family literacy through free online resources. The program offers resources in different languages, including English, French, Simplified Chinese, Tagalog, and Arabic, so families can learn together in their first language, or practice a second or third language. Resources include stories, games, and activities that you can engage in with your child to build literacy skills, grow confidence and offer connection time with your child. See the RESOURCES PAGE HERE
Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
