Dear Families,

Happy May! We have been enjoying the outdoors, soaking up the rays and enjoying watching the trees slowly turn green. May brings a lot of excitement and planning for upcoming school events, various class trips and celebrations of learning and growth this term.

Discover Kindergarten
With so many new Comets joining us in September, we wanted to share a LDSB resource document that has many links and supports for families transitioning to Kindergarten. We will be holding our Discover Kindergarten event at Centennial on June 3rd from 4-5

Track and Field Day
Students have started preparations for developing our School Track Team. We will be holding a school-based track day on May 20th for students in grades 3-6. Practices for various events begin this week during the school day. A Primary Track Fun Day will also be held for grades K-2 on May 21st. This is always a highlight for our students, and we look forward to a day of teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit!

Mental Health Week: Belonging, Connection, and Awareness
Mental Health Week takes place from May 4 to May 10. During this week, we will work to spread awareness about mental health and the importance of feeling connected, included, and supported at school.

This year’s national theme is “Come Together, Canada – Stronger Connections. Better Mental Health.” This theme reminds us that positive relationships, belonging, and connection play an important role in student well‑being.

Throughout the week, students will take part in:

  • Classroom activities focused on mental health
  • Student‑led discussions about kindness, inclusion, and support
  • Opportunities to learn how to ask for help and support others

Our goal is to raise awareness, encourage open conversations, and help break the stigma around mental health. By coming together as a school community, we can help all students feel seen, valued, and supported.

We look forward to Mental Health Week to appreciate the care and leadership our students show in supporting one another.

Running Club Update!

We’re proud to celebrate a fantastic running season for our Grade 3–6 students! Runners have been coming out to recess and after-school practices over the past few weeks and have shown dedication, perseverance, and school spirit every step of the way. It’s been wonderful to see their growth, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the season. Select students have now been invited to participate in the upcoming LCVI Road Race on May 6th at Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute. Details for those participating have been shared on School Day. Congratulations to all of our runners on an incredible season-and best of luck to those competing at LCVI!

Some of our students participated in the Elementary Sports Festival / Special Olympics event at LCVI with many of our Educational Assistants and Ms. Christian (IST Teacher). It was a wonderful day that highlighted inclusion, teamwork, and the celebration of student strengths. Thank you to our families and staff for supporting this meaningful opportunity and to our athletes for giving it their all!

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT & CLIMATE SURVEY:

The Limestone District School Board’s Family Engagement and Climate Survey is now live and we invite families to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.
Your feedback helps Limestone understand what is working well and where we can improve, and supports welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities. The survey is open from April 30 to May 11 and is available online. Paper copies are also available at your school’s administrative office.
Access the Family Engagement and Climate Survey online.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. You may skip any questions you choose, and no identifying information is collected. Thank you for sharing your voice and helping strengthen Limestone schools and school communities.

CPS CELEBRATION OF DANCE - MAY 6:

On May 6th, many classes in our school will be participating in the CPS Celebration of Dance. Students have been practicing in their classrooms and will follow along with choreographed dances altogether in the gym or in their classrooms!

Looking forward to another great week at Centennial!

Host an International Student – Be a Part of Kingston’s Global Community

Limestone is proud of our long tradition of hosting students from other countries. The demand for Kingston, and Canada, as a learning destination is rapidly growing. Students from over 15 different countries are here now staying with great homestay families in Limestone. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to international students.

We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one-year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy, and Denmark.

Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years of age. Our International Education team works hard to make a great match for your family, that can last a lifetime.

Families can learn more by visiting internationaled.limestone.on.ca or phoning the International Education offices at 613-544-7745, ext. 288.students’

Family Literacy First aims to bring parents and children together to practice family literacy through free online resources. The program offers resources in different languages, including English, French, Simplified Chinese, Tagalog, and Arabic, so families can learn together in their first language, or practice a second or third language. Resources include stories, games, and activities that you can engage in with your child to build literacy skills, grow confidence and offer connection time with your child. See the RESOURCES PAGE HERE

Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
