Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We hope this message finds you well-rested and ready to embrace all the opportunities and challenges the new year brings. As we return from the winter break, we extend a warm welcome back to all our students, families, and staff. We are excited to see our hallways bustling with energy and learning once again.
The last few weeks of school in December were filled with trips and excursions, as well as events and celebrations within the school. Classes ventured out to see Puppet plays at LCVI, visited the local library, and participated in outdoor cooking and hiking at Gould Lake. Grade 3 students ventured out to the Swim to Survive sessions and Mr. Cahill's class visited Kingsdale Retirement home to share some songs and spend time with residents. We also had fun with spirit days, staff vs. student volleyball games, and kindness initiatives that included a Kindness and Joy mailbox and a tea cart for staff in the last week.
The start of a new year is a good time to reflect on our goals and aspirations, both in and outside of the classroom. The month of January will bring us to the end of term one and will include a continued focus on student growth and progress.
Welcome back, and here’s to a successful and joyful 2025!
Warm regards,
Your Centennial Team
TIPS FOR HEADING BACK TO SCHOOL:
A new year is also a perfect opportunity to establish or re-establish routines that set students up for success. Here are a few tips to help your child make the most of the months ahead:
1. Establish a Consistent Routine
Help your child ease back into the school rhythm by creating a schedule that balances learning time at home, extracurricular activities, and essential downtime. A predictable routine can help reduce stress and keep them focused.
2. Set Academic Goals
Encourage your child to set realistic and achievable academic or interest goals. Whether it’s improving in a certain subject, reading more books, or mastering a new skill, having clear goals can motivate and guide their efforts.
3. Prioritize Sleep
Sleep is essential for learning and overall well-being. Ensure your child gets enough rest each night to help them stay alert and ready to learn each day.
4. Communication Creates a Network of Support
Stay in touch with your child’s teachers and encourage open communication. If there are any challenges or concerns, we’re here to support you and your child every step of the way.
5. Embrace a Growth Mindset
Remind your child that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow. Celebrate their efforts and resilience, and encourage them to persevere through challenges.
Centennial PS Culture Mosaic Night - Family Feedback Survey
The Centennial PS school council is planning a special evening in February - a community celebration that honours the diverse identities, traditions, and voices of our families, and the richness and complexity of our school community.
This event is about connection, learning, and shared experiences where every voice and culture is valued as part of our vibrant mosaic. Together, we’ll enjoy music, food, creative activities, and cultural sharing that reflect and respect the richness of our lived experiences.
We’d love your input and participation!
Please take 2 minutes to complete the following feedback survey to help make this event fun and meaningful for the Centennial PS community.

School Council Request: Containers needed for winter sowing of native plants in preparation for the May eco-fair:
Large plastic containers are needed for a School Council project, examples are 2L pop bottles, vinegar bottles, or clear plastic boxes with lids (not the type that holds fruit or salad greens). No bottles that held toxic chemicals such as cleaning fluids. Containers that have been cleaned thoroughly can be brought to the office.

Reminder About Parking Areas
As the weather changes, more families may choose to drive to and from school. Please remember that stopping in school bus loading zones or no-stopping areas can result in high parking fines. Bylaw encourages families to respect posted signage and use alternative locations for pick-up and drop-off.
