Hello Centennial Comets!

A big thank you to all our families who have sent back their green cards and Student Data Verification Forms.  If you haven’t sent them back with your child, please do so as soon as possible.

Our Terry Fox Run/Walk is on Thursday, September 26th.  Our students are encouraged to bring in a loonie or twoonie in support of cancer research and the Terry Fox Foundation.  This year, students who  bring in a donation, will have their name entered into a draw to win a Terry Fox t-shirt.  We are also asking all students to wear their Centennial spirit wear or blue and white.  Our run/walk will begin in the gym at 2:00 with an assembly to kick off the event.

Milk is available for purchase, on a daily basis, from Monday, September 16th until Thursday, September 26th.  The cost of chocolate and white milk is $1.00 per carton.  Information and an order form will be sent home for families to pre-order milk and hot lunches for the month of October.  There will be monthly order forms sent home for milk and hot lunches for each month from October to June.  The hot lunch program will include pizza from Pizza Pizza.  All pizza is rennet-free.  Please remember that exact change is needed for monthly orders.  To ensure that your child’s order will be placed, orders must be returned by the form’s due date.

On Monday, September 30th, we will be having an Open House from 4:30 to 5:30.  This is an opportunity for families to visit the school and for parents to meet their child’s teacher.  If you’re unable to attend during this time, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to set up a time to meet.

Our first School Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 30th from 5:30 to 6:30 in our school library.  We welcome all parents and guardians that are interested in participating on School Council.  Information regarding our School Council elections and initial meeting was recently sent home.  Included in this information, were nomination forms for any parents that are interested in holding an executive position of School Council.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

The Limestone District School Board and community partners are committed to making our schools safe for students and staff. As a result, schools will respond to all student behaviours that pose a potential risk to other students, staff, and members of the community. The Community Violence Threat Risk Assessment Process is designed to be proactive in developing intervention plans that address the emotional and physical safety of those involved. A Threat/Risk Assessment is initiated by the school administration or community partners when behaviours have been identified by staff or students that pose a potential risk to self and/or others. Please note: it is important for all parties to support the Violence Threat Risk Assessment Process. However, if for some reason there is a reluctance to participate in the process, by the student of concern or parent/guardian, the threat assessment process will continue in order to ensure a safe and caring environment for all. Families are asked to review the steps of a Threat/Risk Assessment online at http://bit.ly/LDSBthreatassessment .
