Week at a Glance

Hello Centennial Comets!

Our Remembrance Day assembly is on Monday at 9:45. This is an opportunity for us to commemorate those who have served and continue to serve for our country.  We invite our parent community to join us for the assembly.  All students will receive a poppy to wear during our assembly.  They are encouraged to bring in a donation to go towards the Legion.

Picture orders are due back to the school on Wednesday, November 20.  If you would like your child to have retakes, picture retakes are on Tuesday, November 19.

On Thursday, November 21, the LDSB Indigenous Family Network will be hosting an evening of Indigenous cultural activities from 5:45 to 7:20 at the Katarokwi Learning Centre (38 Cowdy Street).  This is an opportunity for Indigenous students and their families to take part in cultural activities, connect with other Indigenous families, and find out what is happening in the community.  A light meal will be served.  If you are planning on attending, please email Scott Nichol at nichols@limestone.on.ca

The week of November 18 to November 22 is Bullying Prevention Awareness Week.  Our Colour House leaders have some activities planned for the week and will make daily announcements around the importance of the week.  We are also encouraging students to wear a pink shirt day on Friday, November 22 for LDSB Pink Shirt Day.

We are very proud to support the Change for Families in Need (Change for FIN), 4th annual ‘Handbags for Hope’ drive.  Every year they host a drive before the holidays whereby they collect new or gently used purses and items to fill them. Filled purses are delivered to women in need on December 6, a National day of remembrance for the importance of the continuing fight for an end to violence against women. Last year, they were able to successfully fill and deliver over 150 filled purses to local shelters and women’s centres. This year, they want to make it even bigger.
They are asking for donations of the following items: personal sized toiletries (body wash, moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner, sanitizer, toothpaste...), makeup, jewelry, small gifts, hats, mitts, socks, new or gently used purses, etc. Any contribution you make would be much appreciated and goes a long way toward adding a little joy into some difficult days for their recipients.  Donations can be dropped off in the ‘Handbag for Hope’ drop box located in our front hallway.
