Note From the Principal

Hello Comet Families,

I hope that this email continues to find you all well and healthy.

It is hard to believe that we are in our 8th week of emergency remote learning. We continue to be impressed with everyone’s perseverance and engagement with the learning activities and virtual meetings.  We appreciate all your hard work and hope that you’re continuing to find opportunities to focus on your family’s health and well-being.

During the week of June 1 to June 5, we are asking all our students to participate in our school-wide Centennial Choice Board activities.  Although Google Meets and virtual meetings will continue next week, teachers will not be posting lessons or learning activities during the week.  Instead, students will have 16 activities to choose from to support their learning and growth.  Teachers will be posting the Centennial Choice Board to their Google Classrooms on Sunday night or early Monday morning.  We have tried to make all the activities fun, engaging and accessible to all students.  We have also tried to create many activities that could be done outdoors and collaboratively, with family members.  We ask that if you and your child(ren) complete an activity, please share it with your child(ren)’s Google Classroom or email it to your child(ren)’s teacher.  We hope that all our Comets will enjoy the activities and share their experiences with their teachers.

Our virtual Resource Room continues to be open to all students.  This is an opportunity for EAs to provide academic and technical support to our students in Google Meet.  The Resource Room will be open only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 -11:00 am and 1:30 - 2:30 pm.  At each session, there are two EAs available to assist you and your child.  Please email me if you require information on how to access the Resource Room.

This week, we are very excited to continue with our Virtual Centennial Kindness Club and we are also welcoming a new virtual club.  Starting this week, students will also have the opportunity to participate in a Virtual Art Club.  All students are encouraged to participate in the Art Club and Kindness Club activities and to share them with their classroom teacher through Google Classrooms.  We look forward to seeing all the amazing things our students are doing to stay engaged and connected.

Thank you to all our students and families who showed their Comet pride and submitted pictures for our Centennial Crazy Hair and Crazy Hat spirit day.  On Friday, June 5, we are asking our Comets to continue to show their school spirit and to dress up in their summer or beach-wear for our Beach Spirit Day.  If your child(ren) would like to participate in the Beach Spirit Day, please share a picture of your child(ren) in their beach/summer wear by emailing their classroom teacher or by sharing it in their Google Classroom.  We ask that all pictures are shared by Wednesday, June 3.   For families with Twitter accounts, you are welcome to tweet your picture on Friday, June 5th.  Please make sure to tag us at @Centennial_LDSB Centennial Comets- Soar Like Comets!
