Note From the Principal

Hello Comet Families,

I hope that this email continues to find you all well and healthy.  Now that the sun is finally shining, I am hoping that many of you are able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Yesterday, we received direction from the Minister of Education that schools will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year due to Covid-19.  The decision was made based on input and guidance from the provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health officials.  Although schools are closed for the rest of the school year, please know that emergency remote learning continues and will through the month of June.  As well, the Ministry announced that students will still receive final report cards in June.

Now that we know we will not be returning to school this year, I know that many of you will be looking to retrieve your child(ren)’s personal belongings.  The school board is currently working on a plan for parents to safely retrieve their child(ren)’s items.  Once that plan has been developed, we will share it with the parent community and begin the process.

Our virtual Resource Room continues to be open to all students.  This is an opportunity for EAs to provide academic and technical support to our students in Google Meet.  The Resource Room will be open only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 -11:00 am and 1:30 - 2:30 pm.  At each session, there are two EAs available to assist you and your child.  Please email me if you require information on how to access the Resource Room.

This week, we are very excited to begin our Virtual Centennial Kindness Club.  Centennial Kindness Club is one way of supporting our Comets in feeling connected to their peers and staff while staying safe at home.  We hope that these activities will inspire you to be kind to yourself and to those around you.  All students are encouraged to participate in the Kindness Club activities and we look forward to seeing all the amazing things our students are doing to promote kindness.  For this week’s Kindness Club activity, please visit

A reminder that we are having another spirit day on Friday, May 22. Thank you to all parents who have shared a picture of their child with crazy hair or wearing a crazy hat.
