Note From the Principal

Hello Comet Families,

I hope that this email continues to find you all well and healthy.

A special thank you goes out to Esme and Findlay Evans for doing an amazing job with our weekly announcements.   To view this week’s announcement, please go to:

This year, report cards will be mailed home to families during the last week of June.  Please note that your child’s report card will look different and will reflect learning from the beginning of Term 2 (January 31) until the school closure (March 13).  More information regarding report cards will be shared in the next couple weeks.

A reminder that student retrieval of personal items is on Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16.  Please refer to the emailed communication or our school website for information around schedule and safety guidelines.   https://centennial.limestone.on.ca/news/news___important_items/student_retrieval_of_personal_belongings

We have 3 new activities for our Comets to try for our Virtual Kindness Club, Virtual Art Club, and Virtual Craft Club.  All students are encouraged to participate in the activities and to share them with their classroom teacher through Google Classrooms.  We look forward to seeing all the amazing things our students are doing to stay engaged and connected.

For our Virtual Craft Club activity, this week’s activity will be posted to all Google Classrooms.

A reminder to all our Comets, our next spirit day is on Friday, June 19.  In recognizing Pride month, we want our Comets to show their True Colours, as we celebrate the impact and achievements of the LGBTQS2+ in creating change and acceptance where everyone has the freedom to be themselves.  Please take a picture of yourself wearing your favourite colour or wearing as many colours as you can.  Please post your pictures to your Google Classroom or email your pictures to your teacher by Wednesday, June 17. Together, let’s show our True Colours!
We ask that all pictures are shared by Wednesday, June 17.   For families with Twitter accounts, you are welcome to tweet your picture on Friday, June 19th.  Please make sure to tag us at @Centennial_LDSB Centennial Comets- Soar Like Comets!

June is also National Indigenous History Month.  In recognizing National Indigenous History Month, we celebrate and honour the diversity, culture and history of Indigenous peoples in Canada.  Together, we all play a part in creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone is accepted and diversity is honoured.

Next week, book author, Ted Staunton will be sharing two videos for our Centennial students.  One video for our primary students and one video for our junior students.  Mr. Staunton is a famous children’s author who has written many books including Puddleman, Simon’s Surprise, Bounced, and The Almost Epic Squad.  His videos will show us how he comes up with an idea for a story and how he turns that idea into a book.  Thank you to all our Comets who have shared a question to ask Mr. Staunton.

Please continue to follow the Centennial website http://www.centennial.on.ca and the LDSB website at www.limestone.on.ca, the Centennial Twitter account at @Centennial_LDSB and the LDSB Twitter account at @LimestoneDSB, for updates and information.

If you are looking for information regarding community supports, these will be posted on the LDSB website.  As well, if you have any questions or might require any assistance, you are more than welcome to email me directly at pattisonean@limestone.on.ca.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for any reason.

Stay Safe, Stay Well Comets!
