Note From the Principal

Hello Comet Families,
I hope that this email continues to find you all well and healthy.  I also hope that you were all able to enjoy the sunshine, this past weekend.   As emergency remote learning continues, we know that all of you are working hard to establish routines with your children, including learning routines.  As you go forward, please know that your family’s health and well-being are the most important things to focus on.  As much as we appreciate all your work and support with your child’s learning, please make sure you pace yourself and that you always take the time to enjoy the sunshine.

Last week, the Ministry announced that school closures will continue until at least May 31, in an effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure everyone’s health and safety.  The minister also announced that students will still be able to complete their school year.

This week is Mental Health Week and Education Week.  Mental Health Week occurs during the first week of May and is dedicated to bringing awareness to issues regarding mental health and reducing the stigma associated with mental health.  Education Week also occurs during this week and provides school boards and schools with the opportunity to recognize and celebrate student achievement and the role that education plays in our lives. Please follow our school Twitter account for more information, resources and activities promoting these important initiatives.

Today, we opened our virtual Resource Room to all our students.  This is an opportunity for EAs to provide academic and technical support to our students in Google Meet.  This support is offered Mondays - Fridays from 10:00 - 11:00 am and from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.  At each session there are two EAs available to assist you and your child.  On Friday, an email was sent to all students with instructions on how to access the Resource Room.

Thank you to all our Comets who showed their Comet pride for our school spirit day.  It was great to see so many of our Comets dressed in their spirit wear or our school colours.

We are looking at having another spirit day on Friday, May 22.  Students are asked to take a picture of themselves with silly hair or wearing a silly hat.  For families that don’t have Twitter, you can email your child’s picture to their classroom teacher or you can post it in your child’s Google Classroom.  Any pictures that are emailed or posted to Google Classroom will be shared on our school Twitter account.  Please share your pictures by Friday, May 15 to ensure that we can get them posted on our Twitter feed by May 22.  For families with Twitter accounts, please tweet your picture and tag us at @Centennial_LDSB Centennial Comets- Soar Like Comets!

Staff are currently looking at ways to start to provide virtual clubs for our students.  Please stay tuned for more information regarding these opportunities.

Please continue to follow the Centennial website and the LDSB website at, the Centennial Twitter account at @Centennial_LDSB and the LDSB Twitter account at @LimestoneDSB, for updates and information.

If you are looking for information regarding community supports, these will be posted on the LDSB website.  As well, if you have any questions or might require assistance in trying to access community supports for you or your family, you are more than welcome to email me directly at [email protected]

Stay Safe, Stay Well Comets!
