Note from the Principal

Hello Comet Families,

I hope that this finds you all well and healthy.

We continue to miss seeing all our students and the joy of being together.  Having said that, this experience has shown us that Centennial is more than a school, it is a community where we all support each other regardless of whether we’re in the same building.  The daily interactions might be different but the relationships and connections continue to be what makes Centennial such an amazing school to be part of.  Thank you for everything you do to make our community so special.

We are still waiting to hear from the Ministry of Education around what the rest of the school year will look like.  Although we know that we won’t be back to school on May 4, we are hoping that information and direction, will be shared soon.

We understand how difficult and complex this situation is and we are very appreciative of all the work that you’re doing to ensure that the learning continues.   Please know that we are here to support you with anything that you might need.  If you need assistance with any of the learning activities, don’t hesitate to connect with your child’s teacher.

We are very excited to announce that, beginning on April 27th, our EAs will be offering academic and technical support to our students through a virtual Resource Room in Google Meet.  This support will be offered Monday - Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 am and from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.  There will be two EAs available during each of these times to assist you and your child.

In order to work out any issues, we are going to begin by opening the room up to a limited number of students for the week of April 27 to May 1 and then will provide access to the entire school population on Monday, May 4.  As this new support system is launched, we expect some unanticipated challenges. However, we hope that the support that our staff can provide will supersede the glitches that will undoubtedly arise.

I hope that all of you have had an opportunity to follow our Centennial Twitter account and have seen the daily messages from our staff.  We will continue to post ‘Comet Connections’ as a way to share positive messages and to stay connected with our students and Centennial community.

On Friday, May 1, all our Comets are encouraged to show their Comet pride by wearing their Centennial spirit wear or dressing in our Centennial colours.  On Friday, please tweet out a picture of your child(ren) wearing their spirit wear or school colours.  In your tweet, please tag us at @Centennial_LDSB Centennial Comets- Soar Like Comets!  Staff will also be participating, so make sure to visit the Centennial Twitter account to see us all showing our school spirit.

Please continue to follow the Centennial website and the LDSB website at, the Centennial Twitter account at @Centennial_LDSB and the LDSB Twitter account at @LimestoneDSB, for updates and information.

If you are looking for information regarding community supports, these will be posted on the LDSB website.  As well, if you have any questions or might require assistance in trying to access community supports for you or your family, you are more than welcome to email me directly at [email protected]

Stay Safe, Stay Well Comets!
