Note From the Principal

Hello Comet Families,

We hope that this email finds you all well and healthy.  We also hope that you all had a great long weekend and were able to enjoy the time with your immediate family.  As we have moved into the second week of online learning, we continue to be amazed at our Centennial community. Although this new way of learning comes with a steep learning curve, we admire everyone’s patience, support, and perseverance.

Much like our staff, we know that many families are at different levels of comfort and understanding in navigating the online platforms and learning.  Please know that this is okay and give yourself permission to take it slow and to go at your own pace. The most important thing is everyone’s well-being and health.  Staff will continue to reach out to families to provide support in any way possible. If you continue to have difficulty with the pace of learning or the learning activities, please don’t hesitate to connect with your child’s teacher.  We are here to assist you and truly believe that together, we’ll work through this process.

We want to thank our Centennial families who picked up technology last Thursday.  Thank you for ensuring everyone’s health and safety in following and respecting the physical distancing guidelines.  As well, thank you to everyone who showed up in the 2-hour time period that we had dedicated for pick up. We were able to distribute devices to all our families who required one during that time.  If at any point in time, you require a device to support the online learning, please connect with your child’s teacher. We also ask that parents discuss online safety tips with their children. Please visit Online Safety Tips for suggestions to guide your conversations.

As I am sure you have heard, the Ministry has announced that school will not resume on May 4th, as previously hoped.  A new date for school reopening has not been announced yet, but we are hoping to hear more information shortly. Once more information is announced, we will share it with our parent community.

A reminder to keep checking our Centennial Twitter account, where we are sharing daily messages from our Centennial staff to our Centennial community.  If you aren’t already following Centennial on Twitter, please do so at @Centennial_LDSB.

Please continue to follow the Centennial website and the LDSB website at, the Centennial Twitter account at @Centennial_LDSB and the LDSB Twitter account at @LimestoneDSB, for updates and information.  If you are looking for information regarding community supports, these will be posted on the LDSB website. As well, if you have any questions or might require assistance in trying to access community supports for you or your family, you are more than welcome to email me directly at [email protected]
