International Languages and Student Ambassadors
"Centennial students speak many languages, not just English. Here's ___________ from __________________ class to speak in _____________. Please listen carefully."
This is how we are presenting the wealth of language that exists in our school on the morning announcements. We're fortunate to have so many students who speak another language. Some of our languages at Centennial have included:
We also added in Canadian English to share facts about Canada with our school community.
Always interested in languages to communicate, this year we had some help from Darcy who shared his knowledge of Sign Language. Thanks, Darcy!
Students from Grades 1 through 6 are invited to share their home language and culture with the school population.
Help from parents is greatly appreciated, as students should practise their announcements before sharing. Talking to the whole school can be a bit scary!
In addition to the announcements, students are also being asked to serve as student "ambassadors" for new students to our school who may not be yet fluent in English, but who speak one of our represented languages. This is an effort to build school community and welcome new students who might be nervous about attending a Canadian school for the first time.
Join us and share your culture and language!
